Fill & Pack (Dense-Pack) Wall Insulation in Indianapolis, Carmel, Fishers & Zionsville

Many homes built before modern insulation standards have unfilled or under-filled wall cavities, allowing heat loss, drafts, and energy waste. Our fill & pack (dense-pack, drill & fill) service injects high-density cellulose into wall cavities, converting them into effective thermal and acoustic barriers — with minimal disruption. We custom install this service for Indianapolis, Carmel, Fishers, and Zionsville homes.

Why Fill & Pack (Dense-Pack) Wall Insulation?

High density, minimal settling

Dense-pack insulation is compressed into the cavity to reduce long-term settling and performance loss.

Eco-friendly & fire-resistant

Made primarily from recycled paper cellulose treated with fire-retardants.

Thermal & air sealing performance

Dense-pack insulation fills gaps and reduces convective air loops, improving energy efficiency.

Minimal disruption

We drill small holes (interior or exterior), blow in insulation under pressure, then patch and finish the holes.

Sound attenuation

Because of its density, it helps reduce noise transmission between rooms or from outside.

How the Dense-Pack / Fill & Pack Process Works

01

Assessment & planning

We map which walls are best suited (exterior walls, cavity depth, existing insulation).

02

Access holes drilled

Small 2–3" diameter holes are drilled either inside drywall or exterior siding.

03

Blowing under pressure

Using a dense-pack blower, cellulose is injected at high pressure to fill every cavity tightly.

04

Inspection & top-off

We ensure full fill and uniform density; may “scrub” back and forth to eliminate voids.

05

Capping, patching, repainting

Holes are filled, surfaces finished, and clean-up performed.

05

Final check

We may use infrared scans or thermal imaging to verify uniform fill.

Local Use Cases

Materials & Techniques

Core material

Usually cellulose (loose fiber) because of its compressibility, density, air-sealing, and eco properties.

Wet-spray option

In some new walls or renovations, wet-spray cellulose (with moisture) is used to help adhesion.

Design density

The target density ensures thermal integrity and limits settling.

Combination fill strategies

Sometimes dense-pack is supplemented with other materials or layers (e.g. foam board or vapor control) depending on wall makeup and moisture control needs.

Cost & ROI

Dense-pack is generally more cost-effective than full wall tear-out and spray foam, offering a strong return on energy savings over time.

Because it improves air sealing and reduces drafts, the real gain is in HVAC load reduction and comfort stability.

Local utility incentives or rebates may apply (check for Indiana or local county programs).
